Dance of the Thrifts

'Bargain Shuffle'
You're walking down the aisle, and yes, because they are not ever big enough for two people to walk side by side comfortably, you need to somehow, telepathically, communicate: "okay, I'm going to go to the left now, and you can walk to the right" ..Sometimes it doesn't work out that well and you have to squish flat up to the racks and shelves and shimmy your way past. Not very elegantly i might add. Some of the following may happen, but if you are standing in the middle of the lane, you may as well be wearing a giant sign that reads, "Please ram into me with your cart." Seriously

'Slide'n'Shimmy'
That awkward moment when you're fieling through all the clothing and you are coming up to another shopper. You are both advancing with immense vigorousness, and show no signs of folding. One of you needs to step back and let the other pass. You have two choices, you can either stand your ground and be firm in your nit-picking, Or you can step back and mumble something in regards of 'oh, haha sorry ill go over here.' You step back and either move on right away or, silently busy yourself along the other side of the shopper and slide back on over to where you left off. Its your choice.
I usually fold.

'Silent Killer'
This one, while not really being a dance per say, but more of a trot on the spot.
You see something you want. You need it. You MUST have it. The only problem, its in someone else's hands. You silently circle the aisle, while keeping your eyes set solely on your item of choice. the shopper hums and hah's over this item, begins to walk around a few more aisles; of course you follow. Then, when push comes to shove, when all else is looking dark, a small light shines in the distance, could it be? is this really happening? Is this real life? THEY PUT IT DOWN! - you rush to collect your treasures. Success!

DIY Fall&Winter Trends

Here are a few tricks of the season on how to keep a strap on your spending but still stay at the top of the trends.

Oversized Cable Knit Sweater - $7
Go to your favourite Second Hand Stores
Make your way over to the Mens Section
Depending on how close or loose fitting you want your sweater (I would suggest the large section.)
Make sure to try on the sweaters before you buy them!!
Wash thoroughly
Dress it up with tights, an infinity scarf and high boots! &&Voila! You look fantabulous ;)
Trust Me. You CAN find a good sweater at second hand stores. I find one almost every time I go in to one. They're really easy to find.

Infinity Scarves - $5
Venture off to your favourite second hand store for cheap finds
Look in the scarves section
&& look for thick knit scarves, the ends and tassels do not matter
Wash thoroughly
Cut off all ends - tassle bits
Apply clear nail polish on the ends so the tips don't fray
Sew the two sends together - just simple needle and thread, nothing fancy, and at the end make sure to coat the end of the thread with clear nail polish as well.
&& there you have it!, when the scarf is only $5, at the end of it you've saved yourself $25+
Or.... you could knit one!

(Some of these are kind of silly but the first few are fun!)

Leg Warmers / High Socks - $3
Go to your Second hand haven
Mens socks section - you may think this is groadie - but they're only leg warmers and you're going to wash them.
Get a few pairs of socks, look for really thick ones and really long ones
Wash them when you get home
Snip off the ends to your socks - if you need length only cut off the toes - that will be enough space for your foot to get through, you could just wear the socks but that kind of defeats the purpose of bringing them up all the way and wearing them by your knees/end of your boots as leg warmers.

Leg Warmers / Sweater Sleeves - $6
Same as above, except looking in the sweater section, this will be the women's sweater section
It may look silly, but try on the sweater's sleeves on your calves
When you find a sweater that fits, buy it, wash it
Cut off the arms at the length that is preferred! put them on your legs and your favourite pair of boots!

Enjoy! &&Happy Thrifting!

Chilly Thrifting

Autumn is in the air and its almost impossible to pick the perfect outfit when you need to bring in to consideration 3 opposite forecasts. I heard that it was supposed  to SNOW this weekend. say WHAAAA? ...its been raining, thats almost snowing... i guess.
While I was putting on my boots it started to absolutely POUR outside. Out of the blue, mother nature just decided to spit out a few raindrops. Luckily it was only a few because as soon as I was done lacing up my boots, the rain stopped! But I brought my ubber cute polka dot umbrella anyhow, just in case. (Dont worry you'll see it soon enough)
Yes, I do check the forecast and not just a physical weather report, you know the one where you do the quick dash out the door in your pyjamas. ...people do that, I know Im not the only one.

Todays outfit consists of thrifted gems.
Enjoy.
